The Brand New Pioneer DJ XDJ-RX3 Overview

YouTube video

The brand new Pioneer DJ XDJ-RX3 is here and we are going to review it so you can decide if this is the right controller for you! This two channel all-in-one DJ controller is the newest in the RX line and looks to improve on the popular RX2 controller.

Touchscreen Display

The first thing you’ll notice when looking at this controller is the 10 inch touchscreen which is the largest ever on a Pioneer DJ all-in-one system. Featuring a high resolution and frame rate ensures you’ll see everything clearly, including the smooth waveform. Plus, a fresh GUI design and a host of new features mean you’ll enjoy easier navigation for quick browsing and accurate mixing. For example, you can touch any of the stacked icons on the left side of the screen to instantly display the relevant information for each track.

Layout

The RX3 uses a club style layout so for anyone familiar with the Pioneer DJ club standard 2x CDJ setup with DJM-900 Nexus 2 mixer will feel right at home. If you are more of an beginner or intermediate DJ looking to grow into a pro DJ setup, this will have you training to use top of the line gear.

FX

Speaking of the 900NXS2, the XDJ-RX3 features all six Color FX that you would find on the pro grade mixer, which is an improvement over the RX2.

One new feature I think you’ll really like is the Release FX. Featuring vinyl break, echo, backspin, and more; these effects make transitioning from one deck to the other fast, easy, and creative. Easily use these FX to fade out one deck and then bring the other in with a banga.

The RX3 also features 14 Beat FX including Ping Pong, Filter, Phaser, Slip Roll, Vinyl Brake, Helix and more.

Software Support

This standalone DJ controller does not require a laptop as it supports on board DJ software BUT if you do want to use software you are familiar with, the RX3 supports both Rekordbox and Serato which makes it easy for anyone already using that software to plug and play without fumbling around with a new OS system.

Overall Thoughts

Overall this is a strong controller that feels like a definite update of the RX2, which is a very popular unit. Like the XDJ-RX2, it is great to use, but the RX3 feels faster and stronger, and really benefits from that bigger screen. The extra FX are great to have, the library functions are much better, and some of the new features are immediately useful.
