Before we get started you need to consider your overall budget. This is important because as we all know, gear is expensive, and if given the chance- you can spend endless amounts of money. So in order to outline the specific gear you will purchase, determine how much you can spend, and then you can look for the best gear in that price range.

Laptop

• • You will need a laptop to play these events and as your business grows, consider a backup laptop in case of emergencies. You never want to play a gig and have a guest knock over your laptop or hard drive and not be prepared
    

Controller

• • Next, a DJ controller or turntables is a mandatory piece of equipment to play live events. There is a large variety of price points for DJ controllers, check out other videos on our channel for what we recommend.
    

Speakers

• • Speakers are needed for the crowd to hear your music and a microphone will allow you to engage with the crowd. Your MC will need a microphone to keep the pace of the event and make announcements to the crowd. In most cases for private events you want to have a wireless mic for guest speeches etc.
    

Lighting

• • Lighting is a great way to increase the production value of your event and will set you apart from your competitors. Consider uplighting, strobes, scanners, moving heads, and more to create a full arsenal of lighting effects.

Facades & DJ Booths

• • Facades, table coverings, or dj booths conceal your equipment and create an elegant professional look. While these are not as necessary as a laptop or dj controller, they are a welcome addition as they keep your equipment safe and your presentation sleek.
